ADULT
Ages 13 & up. Learning the Basics
Participants will work to gain comfort, basic aquatic skills and swimming strokes, including freestyle, breaststroke and elementary backstroke. Participants also learn about aquatic emergencies, safety skills and how to help others in an aquatic emergency. Adult Beginner classes will cover skills for all beginners.
Beginner 1: Participants with little or no experience or are fearful in water will learn skills including entering and exiting the water, floating on front and back, gliding on front and back, breathing techniques, rolling from front to back and back to front, swimming at least two body lengths on front and back using arm and leg action, using rhythmic breathing.
Beginner 2: Participants will work to develop basic swimming strokes, and breathing techniques and swim increased distances. Aquatic skills in deeper water will be covered as well.

Intermediate Ages 13 & up

Skill and Stroke Improvement.
Participants will work to improve proficiency in basic aquatic skills and the 6 basic swimming strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and optional butterfly. Participants also learn skills and concepts needed to stay safe in and around water as well as how to help others in an aquatic emergency.

Water Explorers
Ages 6 -36 mos This class is an introduction for parents & toddlers into the amazing world of water.
Water Explorers 1: You and your child will participate in activities in a fun and safe environment designed to encourage and develop comfort and basic skills that lay a foundation for learning to swim. Parents learn how to safely work with their child on skills, including how to properly support and hold them while becoming comfortable in the water and discovering new skills, learning how to safely enter and exit the water, moving in the water, blowing bubbles, and introducing back and front floats. Safety skills and drowning prevention information are an important part of this class.

Level 1 Ages 6-12
Introduction to Water Skills.
Your child is introduced to basic skills as the foundation for future skills and the development of water competency (the basic minimum skills needed for water safety). Level 1 milestones are 1. entering the water independently using the ramp, steps or side 2. traveling at least 5 yards, bobbing 5 times and then safely exiting the water. 3. Opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged object 4. gliding on the front with assistance at least 2 body lengths 5. rolling to a back float for 5 seconds with assistance 6. recovering to a vertical position with assistance 7. combined arm and leg actions on front and back with assistance 8. alternating and simultaneous arm and leg actions on front and back with assistance.
*It is common for children to participate in several sessions of Level 1 before they successfully demonstrate each skill.

Level 2 Ages 6-12
Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Your child begins to perform skills at a more advanced level building on skills learned in level 1 and begins gaining rudimentary propulsive skills on both the front and the back. This level marks the beginning of independent aquatic locomotion skills. Level 2 milestones are 1. stepping from the side into chest-deep water. 2. fully submerging and holding breath. 3. pushing off the bottom, moving into a treading or floating position for at least 15 seconds, swimming on front and/or back for 5 body lengths and then exiting the water. 4 moving into a back float for 15 seconds, rolling to front, and then recovering to a vertical position 5. pushing off and swimming using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, rolling to back, floating for 15 seconds, rolling to the front and then continue swimming for 5 body lengths.

Level 3
Ages 6-12 Stroke Development.
Instructors follow a plan to introduce new swimming and water safety skills and to build on previously learned skills. Your child learns to swim the front crawl and elementary backstroke at rudimentary levels, is introduced to scissor and dolphin kicks, learns the survival float and increases the time duration for treading water. Your child also learns the rules for headfirst entries and begins to learn to enter the water headfirst from a seated position at the poolside (in water 9 feet deep or deeper). Level 3 milestones include 1. flutter, scissor, breaststroke and dolphin kicks 2. jumping into deep water from the side, recovering to the surface, maintaining position by treading or floating for 1 minute, rotating a full turn and then turning as necessary to orient to the exit point 3. swimming the front crawl and/or elementary backstroke for 25 yards and then exiting the water 4. pushing off in a streamlined position, swimming the front crawl for 15 yards, changing position and direction, swimming the elementary backstroke for 15 yards and then exiting the water.
